Jazinga Beta Guide

Introduction and Overview

Thank you for installing the Jazinga Beta, a modern era small business telephone system that combines the features of high-end enterprise telephone systems with low cost hardware platforms and telephony services.

Designed for small businesses with up to 20 employees, Jazinga is easily installed and managed by someone who has a basic understanding of setting up an Internet connection. Jazinga provides a setup and system management environment that guides the user through a non-technical plain language interface.

Please email beta@jazinga.com with all questions, feedback suggestions, likes and dislikes. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Requirements

Broadband Internet Connectivity – The Jazinga Beta will use Internet-based phone services referred to as VoIP or more specifically SIP service. In order to make calls, your network will need to have enough available bandwidth to accommodate your call. A general rule of thumb is that you will require about 0.10 Mbps of bandwidth for every
simultaneous call. The uplink on your Internet connection will usually be the restricting factor rather than the downlink. A basic tool for estimating the bandwidth availability for your network can be found at http://www.speedtest.net.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Phone Service – You will need a provider that provides SIP-based VoIP service. You will want to select one that provides phone numbers (called DIDs) in your local area. If you don’t already have an existing VoIP service provider, we use http://www.voip.ms. It’s relatively easy to change VoIP service providers if you’re not happy with them, so don’t worry about tying yourself to any specific provider at this point.

Phones – The Jazinga Beta will work with SIP desk phones, softphones and mobile phones. Each of which are described separately below:

SIP Desk Phones – Jazinga will work with any standard SIP telephones but it is strongly recommended that if you are using desk phones you purchase phones that Jazinga is able to automatically detect and configure. The brands of SIP phones that Jazinga can automatically detect and configure are: Aastra, Cisco Small Business Pro, Linksys, Polycom and snom. All other phones will require complex manual configuration.

Softphones – Jazinga can be configured to work with software that enables your PC or smartphone to work like a telephone. These are called softphones. Jazinga has not yet released a softphone version that can be automatically configured, so some manual configuration will be required. A tech note can be found at http://beta.jazinga.com to assist you with the configuration of the following softphones:

Mobile Phones – Jazinga is able to send calls coming into the system back out to external numbers. These external numbers could be a mobile phone or home phone. When Jazinga sends the call to the mobile phone number it’s similar to any other cell call, so cellular minutes are being used. The difference is that a call that is sent by Jazinga to a mobile phone can be transferred or parked for pick up on another phone connected to the Jazinga system. This can be useful for moving calls between your desk phone and mobile phone.

Getting Started

To start the web-based configuration process, navigate to http://jazinga.local in your Webbrowser. The onscreen instructions should be all you need to get your though the setupprocess. If not, please let us know by emailing beta@jazinga.com.

One important concept to keep in mind while configuring Jazinga is that changes need to be published to your system to have them take effect. Whenever you publish changes to the system, active calls could be disrupted which is why changes are batched and sent to the system all at one time.

If convenient for you, we would enjoy the opportunity to watch and listen as you work through your configuration. Please let us know if you are interested and we will make sure we have someone available. We can use tools like Skype screen sharing that willallow us to monitor your process. The user interface and its ease-of-use is a criticalcomponent of Jazinga as we move forward so every opportunity we get to watch firsthand is greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for working with us.
